Encore 5.0.6 for Mac

Just downloaded 5.0.6 from Macupdate but the installer said it couldn't find the Encore to update. The original Encore in the folder was called 'Encore 5.0.5'. I changed this to simply 'Encore' and it updated ok. It then wouldn't open in OSX 10.5.8 (Intel iMac) until I did 'Get Info' and changed it to 'open in Rosetta'. Seems fine now but there was no 'What's new in 506' file so I can't see what's changed. Any possibility of posting an update list somewhere on the GVOX site?

Stick with 505. The reason is that 506 has a fatal bug which wipes out all the font settings for the text elements in your charts. As far as I know, 506 was never released for that reason. My advice would be to always get your updates form the GVOX site, then you won't run into this kind of problem.

This update is also currently available on the GVOX site in the downloads section so I assume GVOX has posted it on MacUpdate. Have they fixed the font bug or has it been posted in error? Before saw your post I already opened the last piece I was working on and it looked fine. I won't open any more till GVOX confirm that this update is ok.

I have just tried the 5.0.6 update from the GVOX site (under OSX 10.6.4). The updater is unable to find the software to update (Encore 5.0.5) and reports an error.

Rename your Encore 5.0.5 app to just 'Encore' then it should update ok. That worked for me. (In OSX 10.6 you don't need to check 'Rosetta' in the Get Info box).

Thanks, Paul, I'll probably wait for GVOX to correct this. In the meantime, can you tell me whether the update has re-enabled the checkbox for hiding the number in duplets? (Notes > Attributes > Beams > Hide Tuplet).

Just tried this and no, the check boxes don't have any effect. Without release notes it's not easy to see what has changed, though at a quick glance it's working ok. Hopefully GVOX will comment here soon on this release.

There seems to be great confusion as to whether the posted version of 5.0.6 still has that font bug and I'm scared to try it because now that 5.0.5 is no longer posted I couldn't go back. Here's a description of the bug which maybe you could try exercising since you already have 5.0.6 installed anyhow:

1. Take a score (any score but best to choose one you don't care about corrupting), which has font(s) selected for the "text elements" (ie title, composer footers etc) that are other than the default font.

2. Open up "text elements". What shows as the font: is it the desired font or has it reverted to the default font?

3. Change the font in "text elements" to some other font. After exiting the "text elements" dialog, what do you see in the score: the desired font or simply the default font?

I'm sorry I've been slow to get information out, been a little bit hectic.

5.0.6, in a beta version, had a bug where the fonts would not save in Text Elements. That bug has been fixed in the release version.

As you can see below, we have included a new installing/updating system. This system will allow us to release incremental updates more frequently. If you're having a problem with the updater, try renaming the application, unlocking/changing permissions or contact us for a complete application.
