Forgive me but that sounds mighty rude and isn't really helpful to the discussion. I repeat, most if not all software allows the option to save files in the older format.
mikehalloran wrote:In any case, for the programs that allow you to save as older versions, you must actually save as the older format. You cannot open the newer files with the older software.
Obviously!!

I am trying to think of a single music recording or notation program that allows you to save backwards. Nope, none come to mind. Your insistence that it should be possible might strike some as naive. It strikes me as ridiculous.

Mike,

Although other music editors might not let you save backwards many other programs do. For example, current versions of Microsoft Office (e.g. Office 2007-2010 which default to .docx, xlsx, etc) can be set to save in the older Windows 97-2003 version (e.g. .doc, .xls, etc). In software where older legacy versions are still in common use the ability to save backwards allows you to remain compatible with others while still using the newer s/w. Given the problems with Encore 5 and/or the cost of upgrading from 4.5 to 5 which might put off some, the ability to "Save As Encore 4.5" might be a very useful thing.

Regards,

Bob

Mike, this screenshot is from Sibelius 6 - any further comments?

Well said.

And Mike's assertion that it's not possible is completely wrong. Of course it's possible - it just takes some programming effort, that's all. The lack of the backsave capability is a conscious decision on the part of GVOX, not a technical imperative. That's why I think it's fair game to call them on it.

Are you sure? That works for me in 505.
Mike: I have just discovered what I suspect is the cause of your issue with not being able to resize the height of endings boxes. If your ending box is associated with a hidden staff, you will be able to see the ending but you will not be able to resize its height. That just happened to me for the first time and, like you, I thought it was a bug until I realized what was going on.
