Export to "Default Score template"

Postby Andre » Fri Oct 22, 2010 1:50 pm

Following a question in the gvox.fr forum, I found out two problems with the templates handling in the French version.

1. When opening a "New" score, one normally gets to select from a long list of sample templates provided with Encore, intermixed (in alphabetical order) with personal templates. In the French version, the sample templates are missing.

The reason is that the sample templates are provided in the "Templates" folder when Encore_FR looks for them in the "Modèles" folder. Apparently, a folder copy or rename is a working bypass.

2. When saving ones own "Default Score Template", Encore_FR writes it in a "Modèles" folder, though at "New Default Score" time it searches in the "Templates" folder (both being in the Application Data).
A bypass is also possible, but it is less practical since it would need to be redone every time the default is re-saved - unless Windows would have a "folder alias" function which I did not find.

My preference to solve this problem is NOT to translate the product folder names, since it would also avoid creating separate sets of templates for each language, for people using different language sets in parallel.

This aspect should also be taken into account by those who might be preparing the German and Italian (and possibly other) versions. The Dutch version I tested for Eveline is OK.

Exactly.

Yes. Thanks.
I knew translating the folder names would cause problems, and warned for this error.

I'm afraid there are more errors like this in the French version.

kind regards

I would add, NOT to translate both the folder names and the filenames generated by the product.
This would allow a user to use automatically the same default template, whichever language version is used.

Or, are there users who would want different default settings depending on the product language?

I browsed several folders, including those within the user's "local settings" and did not find other translated names, except those (non-executable) which are explicitly in a language (read.me, license agreement, ...).
I'm unable to check in the registry settings.

Yes, the file names given when creating a new score are language dependent (Untitled, Sans Titre, Naamloos...) but that's probably not a problem.

Personnally, original names for folders (in English) and localized names for files would look strange to me.
Let's localize the whole path (my preference) or not.
Core Duo 2.4 MHz - 2 GB -o- Win XP SP3 -o- Encore 4.5.5
Soundblaster XFi Pro -o- Motu symphonic instrument
Gem JP76 keyboard
