Chord parsing function not working

Here are two short charts which include the problem I'm having.

In MTDTest01, I created a simple melody and then tried to add chords by clicking the "Chord" button on the palette, clicking the arrow, highlighting the note, and playing the chord. In measure one, I had to strike the C chord TWICE in order for it to register and move on to the next pitch. Playing the C chord a third time placed an incorrect chord over the second quarter note in the measure. For the third quarter note, I again had to strike the C chord TWICE in order for the chord to register; striking a chord again gave me yet another incorrect chord above the fourth quarter note. This pattern continued for the entire score.

In MTDTest02, I simply played one note...a low Bb. You see the results.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer; MTD is pretty much unusable at present, and I cannot proceed with any of my projects.

What happens when you use the QWERTY keyboard for chord parsing input (disconnect the MIDI keyboard completely and turn on the computer keyboard with the "Keyboard" palette). Can you test that?

Maybe stupid questions, but I really need to know what exactly goes on. Please help, is the following interpretation right?

1. I created a simple melody = you started the default piano score and entered 12 quarter notes and a whole note as shown in your example
   Result:

2. clicking the "Chord" button on the palette = made the 'Graphic' palette visible and - using the left mouse button - clicked on the C
   System response:
   
   • In the 'Graphic' palette, the Chord tool shows selected.
   • On the left side of the score, a yellow arrow becomes visible.
   • In the Score Action bar, the Pencil tool shows selected.
3. clicking the arrow, = using the left mouse button, clicked on the arrow tool in the score action bar
   System response:
   
   • In the Score Action bar, the Arrow tool shows selected,
   • the Pencil tool shows unselected.
4. highlighting the note, = using the left mouse button, dragged a square around the first note in the first bar of the score.
   System response:
   • A black square shows that note is selected.
5. playing the chord = hit the C key of the MIDI-keyboard, in order to get the chord symbol of C major
   System response:
   
   • Nothing seems to happen.
6. Hit the C key of the MIDI-keyboard a second time
   System response:
   
   • The first note gets unselected.
   • A C (for C Major) appears above the first note.
   • The second note gets highlighted with a pink square, to show it is selected
7. Hit the C-key of the MIDI-keyboard a third time.
   System response:
   
   • The 2nd note gets unselected.
   • A symbol for a C-chord, other then C Major appears above the 2nd note.
   • The 3rd note gets highlighted with a pink square, to show it is selected
8. Repeat hitting any C-key on the MIDI-keyboard
   System response:
   
   • Alternate the result of step 6 and 7.

If my interpretation is correct, at least I can confirm your findings of 'unexpected behavior' (in other words: BUG).

Remark:
If the first note is selected with [shift]+click, the result is different!
Remark:
To reproduce the steps, I used the Qwerty-keyboard (on screen keyboard, with "QWERTY Keyboard Note Entry" enabled). Instead of your C6/9 symbol, I got the C9 symbol.

Addition: the table for 'Chord Symbol Quick keys' (aka chord parsing): shows which MIDI notes to hit for which chord symbol.

Which keys did you press to get the G13sus4? What was that chord supposed to be?
Did you enter the melody with real time input?
Was your MIDI keyboard completely disconnected?

Remarks:

1. which chord symbol appears, may depend on the selected note AND the MIDI keys applied.
2. To select a chord type, only a few MIDI keys are required
3. The MIDI-keys need to be pressed exactly at the same moment

Yes; all on QWERTY.

I pressed G-J-L and got the G13sus4. It was supposed to be a plain G major triad.
I entered the melody note-by-note, not real time.

My MIDI keyboard was completely unconnected.

Note entry by MIDI-keyboard is buggy and Chord Symbol entry by MIDI-keyboard is buggy as well.
I am very sorry, to admit this is a fact, for now.
Crucial: when will the bugs be killed?

It'll be a moot point soon. I'm looking for new software from a different company.

I don't suppose this is the place to ask for suggestions, however.

VERY angry, very disappointed, and VERY behind on projects.

We are aware that the new Chord Parsing function has a bug and we are in the process of fixing it. The bug, ticket #631 in our testing system, was recently reported, June 22, 2010 and is listed as a priority fix. However, as we fix it, we'll know more about the time frame to squash it. If we can't fix it, we may return to the previous method which includes more keystrokes (we would much rather fix the problem).

MIDI entry on Windows 7 is very much dependent upon having updated MIDI drivers for your hardware. Our tech support has done research in this area and found that very few companies have Win7 compatible drivers. Please check with your MIDI interface hardware manufacturer.

If that's true, then why does Master Tracks Pro (6.8.4) work flawlessly with my old MidiSport 2x2 under W7? Despite all the other issues (documented elsewhere)? Whereas MTD 4.0.2 won't work except for real-time recording. Unfortunately, what I need is step recording... which doesn't work at all.

You may be on the wrong track! Tipped off by a post on the Yahoo discussion group, coupled with some blind luck (along with knowing just enough about computers to be dangerous), I have managed to solve not only my MIDI issues with W7 but the long-plaguing 'glob of notes' problem I've had with WXPsp3 since MTD 4 came out. In both cases, going into Windows Task Manager and setting the affinity for the MTD process to just one processor seems to have eliminated my MIDI issues! Both my home and work computers run dual-core processors and that seems to be the trouble.

Maybe it's only me, but at least I finally got to the bottom of my trouble. I still find it interesting that neither Geniesoft's Overture demo nor Gvox's own Master Tracks Pro have any MIDI problems with the same dual-core processors - for that reason alone I'm convinced that it's not a W7 driver issue, but something within MTD itself.
