Grace notes for flams

Postby jkdrumboy » Thu Mar 25, 2010 4:16 pm

I apologize if this has been addressed but I cannot find anything for grace notes for the purpose of writing flams. (All I can find are about grace notes re: playbacks.)

It seems unconscionably difficult and workarounds are nasty!

For example, If I have an 8th note triplet and each part of the triplet is a flam:

- if I create the 8th note triplet and beam the group and then I attempt to insert the grace notes, it un-beams the triplet. Upon re-beaming the triplet, the grace notes wind up attaching to the top horizontal beam and it looks like 5 grouping (with the grace note in front of the first note usually unaffected.)

- of course if I begin with the notes un-beamed, add grace notes and beam the group...same thing

I SO HOPE that there will be a true fix to this issue but in the meantime has anybody any workarounds?

Sincerely and thankfully,

John

Hi Drumboy,

I support your request.
I think I know what kind of notation you mean, though I'm not a drummer myself.
Similar problems would arise for bagpipe notation, where complicated grace figures are normal practice.
Actually, working with grace figures of more then one note always has felt like a gambling sport to me.

So, if anyone has a work-around or a proper procedure, or - better still - a software enhancement, I would be very interested.

I'm afraid though we need to post our needs on the 'Feature Requests' forum..

Kind regards

Eveline

Apologizing for beeing perhaps off topic, but... for my musical English : what is a "flam" please ?

Tip from Encore 5 Manual. Try it.
"When notes added to a measure are intended to be grace notes, you will need to turn OFF Auto Space and Auto Guess/Beam. With Auto Space ON you will be prevented from entering more than the full beat count for the measure. Since grace notes are standard notes before you convert them to grace notes, you have to be able to add them to the measure."

Hey ZIZI4N7E1E - thanks for that but I do already know about that and probably should have mentioned it....I had both functions turned off and I still got that problem!

Not sure if this should be a separate topic but when I re-align measures with grace notes in it, they get mucked up much in the exact same way as when I re-beam groups with grace notes in them...
