Encore ruined my file

Postby nohmad » Thu Mar 18, 2010 7:19 pm

I've mistakenly opened Nuendo file(.npr) in Encore 4.5.5 by drag-and-drop.
I'd rather say drag-and-miss. Anyway, at that moment, Encore ruined my file.
It was a terrible shock. I have no idea why Encore attempted to mutate self-
unrecognizable file without user's explicit grant?

I'm in danger of screwing my work. How can I restore my former Nuendo file?
I desperately opened that ruined file with hex editor, and then I found every most
significant 4 bits in byte sequences were still there, but every least significant 4
bits in byte sequences were modified by Encore.

Normal .npr file looks like:

Have you any thought on that?
Please, help me restore my Nuendo file.

PS. I'm experienced programmer. So you can tell me an algorithm, that's enough, I guess.

Hmm, this is interesting... I am an experienced mathematician, and I looked at this for about an hour, and I do not see any pattern... I tried several regression testing methods, and even found that the 99-9A bit change mirrors the CE-CF bit change, but that did not induce a pattern. So I have several questions to attempt to diagnose this problem:
1. Is it deterministic? Id est, if you open the same file twice, do you get the exact same results? If the answer to this is no, I am afraid I cannot help you.
2. Is it constant or relative change? Id est, if you open a file same as that one, except the second bit would be 0, would Encore change it to 5948, or would it keep it 5B48, or would it also change any other bits? So once again, if it is constant, I am afraid I cannot help you. If it is not, maybe I would be able to devise an algorithm. Also, same question if you change the bit to 6, and also if you change the 4th bit.
3. Just out of curiosity, what happens if you open the corrupted file with Encore?
Anyways, hope that information can help me come up with an algorithm...
Sasha

Hi nohmad,

I noticed you haven't received a reply from Gvox.

Some forum members might step forward to assist you, and you may get a response from Gvox here, but posting at this location does not ensure a reply from Gvox:

However, as a registered user you can get free, official Gvox tech support by messaging Gvox at this link:
