Accidentals in Musictime 3.5.6.4

Postby Dino Violino » Tue Dec 15, 2009 6:57 am

Suddenly I am not able to change any notes to sharp or flat etc. Any ideas appreciated. Am running on Mac OS 10.4.11 1.9 GHZ. Do I need to trash preferences? Thanks!

I only use Encore ... so my suggestions may be of limited usefulness. You're problem may be unique to MusicTime.

What method are you using for applying accidentals?

Would re-installing again the software cures the problem?

Thanks for your responses. I have been applying accidentals using the palette accidentals. I will try the suggestions you gave. Thanks Nor.

Have you tried using keystrokes? It's possible that this alternative might work until you figure out what's wrong.

Select the note(s) you want to change, then press:

    s for sharp
    n for natural
    f for flat

Since these shortcuts do highlight the corresponding palette entry, I would not expect a great difference.

The tests I would recommend:

Use "nudge up/down" to raise or lower the pitch by halfsteps; if this makes the the accidentals to display, the problem would be in the pencil entry system. Else, it would be more internally.

Listen to the entered tune, particularly to the sequence of a given note, followed by that note with a (failed) accidental. If the tune changes, it would be a kind of "hidden accidental" (I have one in a specific situation, I'll write soon about it).

I don't remember if there would be a means to show accidentals in another color as the notes (and to have the accidentals accidentally shown as white).

Perhaps you've just changed clef? Encore and MusicTime sometimes exhibit strange behavior with accidentals when having changed clef in the same bar. The work-around is to change clef last, so pitch the notes accordingly and write the accidentals in, when all is done put the new clef in and all will be transposed. You might also need to redo the beams.
