I wish I could remember where I got them, but I use a series of fonts called Inkpen2; the one called Inkpen2 Chords at least has the triangle shortcut for Major 7ths (and up) when you hit [shift] 6. It also has a smaller, superscript "sus" when you hit ["] ([shift] ') - but only when you hit [shift] [ immediately before it. Still, better than nothing.

There's a hardware solution - buy one of those nifty LED music stand lights :)

But really, yes, I do agree with you very much and it's cropped up a few times in the Feature Requests section.

LOL, Hi Polar,
I've go the double headed LED light already. I think you have to add an extra light for every decade of playing over 45 years of age;0) I just crossgraded to Encore 5.X for Windows so I'm hoping to use the Expressions Palette.

Sorry - can't relate. I actually currently use a standard music stand fixture with a 3w CFL. Allegedly, it's the equivalent of a standard 15w and it's a little brighter than I'd prefer. I also regularly perform reading lyrics in 9pt Comic Sans. 8)

There's a good chance that my Inkpen2 font came from Overture, or something similar. Back when WXP first came out, we upgraded to it at church and I had all manner of trouble with MTD 3.something prior to 5.5. If I recall the story correctly, Overture was created by former Passport folk and had developed a converter for old Encore/MTD files. Unfortunately, I found too many changes in the test files I ran for it to be of use to me. In most cases, I had a hard copy somewhere and it was actually faster to recreate the file from scratch rather than fixing the translation errors. Before I got too far along that path, Gvox came out with 3.5, which at least functioned in XP *and* opened my library of MTD files (which was several hundred back then). Until that happened, I tried a couple of different low-budget scoring programs and retained the fonts for all of them.

Hi Ron,
I found that I had the Inkpen2 fonts installed already on my PC. There are several entries of fonts. I haven't had the time to explore the different variations. Is the one you got the triangle from the plain Inkpen2?

Could be. And I suppose it could be that Inkpen is distributed with several notation programs. Mine came with Sibelius 5.

Well,

I will be so kind this time. I want really to help you guys. I will make a font like NorScript Cased but with small: maj, min, aug, dim sus so to fit the way Encore draw chord symbols.

Your example demonstrates a persistent oddity with Encore. The sharp and flat signs are always supplied by Anastasia whatever font the user has selected for the chord symbol text. It really looks unprofessional and I hope that it will be fixed some time.

I would switch on USE HANDWRITTEN SYMBOLS to get jazz sharps and flats....

Yes, polabreeze, Encore chord symbols drawing is configured for using normal text font like Arial, Times New Roman etc... when we deal with handwritten, so the code need some changes, I can make Encore draw chord symbols like Finale and Sibelius but I need help from Matt.

Of course. But that's only a bandaid solution because the sharps and flats signs still do not come from the same character set as the chord symbol text (unless one uses the same font for the whole thing of course). Therefore, the style will still be mismatched to a greater or lesser degree. It would be much better to have a solution that uses the fonts properly.

Hi Nor,
I like the idea of making the "colors" of chord smaller and more compact; I never realized why the chord sharps and flats were so large before you made us aware. I really appreciate that you are putting your time into this.

As I look at examples and see the space saved, I still see the space that could be saved with symbols like the triangle, circle, and circle/slash for the maj, dim, and m7b5. I understand how difficult this would be given the technical difficulties you've outlined.

I hope that Matt will help make this a reality for Encore and MTD. Is there any way that the handwritten font you're considering to use the symbols, understanding that they would be a "bandaide" solution?
