Newbie Question about MIDI input

Postby Doolittle on Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:28 pm

Hi, I'm not sure if people still visit this site, but I just bought Master Tracks Pro (I know...even with all the glitches I've read about) because my old serial port Mac is about to fizzle out.

Question: I have a Yamaha PSR 220 hooked to my eMac OS 10.4.11 via a MIDI adaptor that claims that it needs no drivers. I know that the hook-up is okay because when I test it through Audio/Midi I get a positive response (sounds like someone is banging on my keyboard). So I know there is a signal getting through.

Problem: I can only record one or, at most, two notes before I get nothing else. I'm having the same problem in Garageband, so I'm assuming I've got something hooked up wrong and it's not an inherent flaw in Master Tracks that you can't even record anything from a MIDI keyboard.

Please help before my old Mac totally disintigrates, leaving me program-less!

Is your MIDI interface an M-Audio Uno, by any chance? Those devices have a known incompatibility issue with some Yamaha keyboards. I experienced identical symptoms to yours and after much emailing they sent me an updated replacement, which works flawlessly.

Hmmm... I'll check it out when I get to work tomorrow. I hope that's not the case, because I'll never find the original paperwork on it!

Thanks for the quick response.

Thanks for the quick response.
You won't need the original paperwork. It's a well documented design flaw. Provided your serial number is in the right range they'll send you a new one regardless.

Drat...it's not that brand. It's Hosa Technology "Tracklink" says Plug and play - no driver required. However, a friend of mine purchased the same brand and had the exact same problem. She purchased a different brand but hasn't tried it yet, so I'll give her's a shot.
