Unable to use Encore 5.0.5 update

I have a purchased copy of Encore 5 which started crashing when I switched to a newer Mac with Snow Leopard. It was suggested to me that I download the 5.0.5 update, which I did, and it seemed to work all right. Tonight I had to restart my computer to update some software, and when it rebooted I was no longer able to use Encore. I got an error message saying that I had to install Encore music fonts to use the program. I have no idea how to do that, and don't understand what happened to them in the first place, since Encore was working OK before I rebooted. So I uninstalled the update, came here to the GVOX site and downloaded it again. I got the same error message. I am really bummed that I BOUGHT a copy of Encore and now I can't even use the program. Any ideas?

You lost the fonts when you changed computers. Delete the version on your computer and re-install the software from the version of Encore that you purchased. This will install the fonts on your computer. Then apply the update again.

I appreciate your reply, pasadera, but it must be some other problem. First of all, when I installed Encore on my new computer and then installed the upgrade, it worked just fine until I rebooted my computer last night. I tried deleting everything tonight and reinstalling from the CD I purchased, and I still get that same error message...how could the fonts have disappeared from the original CD? That's impossible.

Any other ideas?

Beats me. Checking up on this (Mac OS X 10.4.11), I can't find the location of the Anastasia/Frets font used by Encore 5.0.5 so assume that these are now built into the software (?). If so, that would be a great disadvantage to me since I would prefer to use my own customized font.
If the fonts are built in, this could be an OS (not an Encore) problem but I don't say that with any certainty.

It's a mystery why they're in two different places, with different names too, but possibly it's because I have both 4.5.6 and 5.0.5 installed - maybe the two versions do it differently.

Thanks, that's interesting. As I transferred the Encore app. from another computer, I don't have these on my laptop running Snow Leopard which means that Encore 5.0.5 must be using my custom font after all (\Mac HD\Users\Username\Library\Fonts\), although it's displaying a bit differently on-screen.

I'm none the wiser after polarbreeze's post. I opened the Encore 5 installer but no fonts were installed. I then de-installed the only Anastasia fonts on my computer but Encore 5.0.5 continued to function without a problem. Were polarbreeze's fonts left over from an installation of an earlier version of Encore?

I can't really take off "encore.plist" because I don't have Encore installed at the moment. I'm unable to install it because of the error message about the fonts. Unless you're suggesting I remove it from the original CD...I guess I could try that.

What did you uninstall? Have you also deleted com.gvox.encore.5.plist (user>libraray>preferences) and GVOX (user>library>application support)?

I had the impression from your original post that you got that error message when trying to run Encore, not when installing it.

Assuming it is currently not installed, what happens when you try to install it from the original CD (forget about the update for now)? Does it:

1. install OK but give an error message when you try to run it?
or
2. give an error message during installation and therefore refuse to install?

OK, the first time I ran into the problem I was trying to run Encore after my computer had rebooted after the usual software updates. That's when I first got the error about the fonts. I was using the Encore 5.0.5 update. I tried downloading it again from this site, but got the same error, so I tried
reinstalling from the original CD, and STILL got the error about the fonts! I'm not sure what you mean by installing it vs running it. When I tried to install it from the CD, I got as far as clicking on the Encore icon and that's when I got the error message.

I'm not sure what you mean by "clicking on the Encore icon". Do you mean that the installation was complete (with no error message) and then you got the error when you tried to run the program?
