It would be very useful in Encore to be able to select as range of contiguous measures which would then be subject to any "selection-based" action.
Two modes would be desirable:
• Numeric selection. Here, the user would specify, in a dialog for this purpose, the range of measures, by measure number, that should be selected. There would need to be provisions for controlling over which staves this occurred. At a minimum, the choice should the stave on which the insertion cursor now lies or "all staves".
• Bracketing. Here, we would either:
•• somehow mark the beginning and end measures of the range using some keyboard gestures when the insertion point has been placed at each of those locations.
•• place the insertion cursor in the measure at one end of the desired range and then use a mouse click with some modifying key press to mark the other end. (This is equivalent to the facility offered in many applications, where Shift+Click marks the end of the region to be selected. That gesture, however, is unavailable for the purpose here, since it is used to "pile on" single measures into the selection.) Presumably, a dialog would pop up to allow discrimination of the staves to be included.
