Windows 7 is a Beta release intended for technology enthusiasts to download and try out, possibly to report bugs I believe. It's not recommended for everyday use at the moment, it won’t be commercially released for a little while yet. I would stay with Vista, which is Microsoft’s current most-up-to-date supported system.

I just installed Windows 7 64 bit. The only problem I've noticed is that I cannot install the 4.5.5. update for Encore. The error message for the update references being sure you have the correct version (32 bit and 64 bit) of the program. None of the compatibility settings allow the update to run. Encore 4.5.3 seems to run OK, although I haven't had time to do much testing. No significant problems on other programs. The biggest issue for me is all the interface changes -- I skipped Vista and have been running XP. Some things I like. Some things look to me like someone took something that worked well and fixed it until it took twice as much effort to do the same task.

I agree as regards the new look of Windows, some things on Vista are overly complicated and if this trend continues then I don't particularly like the way Windows is going. As regards version 7, it's Beta so it's changing all the time and is likely to face compatibility issues with many applications. You are not advised to use this as your day to day machine.
